UBC's application deadline has been extended to February 1, 2012 at 11:59 pm PST.
Once again, the New Westminster Police Service is offering select students in Grade 11 and 12 the opportunity to take part in the Student Police Academy being held July 3-14, 2012 at the Justice Institute of BC in New Westminster. This nine-day course offers approximately twenty-four grade 11 and 12 students, with an interest in law enforcement, the opportunity to receive realistic police academy training. This is a unique program bringing together students from various schools throughout the lower mainland. Please note: there is a $50.00 application fee for students accepted into the program.
The entire application package with all the required waiver forms and instructions are available on our web site at http://www.nwpolice.org/Student-Police-Academy-2012.html#SpecialEvents. All necessary information and detailed, down-loadable instructions are on-line. Students must submit applications through the work experience coordinator, with a supporting letter of reference for screening purposes. All completed applications must be sent to the New Westminster Police Service no later than March 9th, 2012. Students will be notified in writing if they are selected for an interview. Please do not fax the applications. If you're a Grade 12 student and have been a member of the Envision Financial Credit Union since July 2011, you may be eligible for one of their scholarships. CBC Vancouver is partnering with Vancouver Sun again to offer an exciting opportunity for students to learn and experience the world of journalism and broadcasting. An exciting new development this year is that all 30 finalists will receive a $1000 scholarship for post-secondary studies, courtesy of Sylvan Learning. The project is open to all high school students from grades 10-12 from across Metro Vancouver. To participate, students should first sign up for a journalism workshop held at the CBC Vancouver Broadcast Centre in downtown Vancouver on January 21st and 22nd, 2012. After the workshop, students can come back and audition for a spot on this year's News Day team. This year, register now at cbc.ca/bc/newsday to be part of News Day in BC. The deadline for application to UBC is January 31, 2012. For SFU, you're looking at February 28, 2012.
