Who: Students in grade 11 or 12 who are near native or native English speakers What: Volunteer opportunity to support students from Korea that are visiting Canada for the first time. When and Where: January 5 to January 27th at Brooke Elementary (north end) and Delta Manor (south end) - classes are during the school day and there is an after school class from 3:00 to 4:00 at both sites. [NOTE: Weeks can be divided up and volunteers are welcome to come to the 3-4pm slot.] Volunteer Tasks: To support these students by helping them to improve their English. After these 4 weeks, they will be joining the regular classes at the local high schools. You may be involved in the following activities: working in class with small groups of students encouraging them to practice their English, helping to prepare materials for the lessons, helping the students prepare for their speech contest that happens at the end of January. If you are interested in continuing to volunteer during February you can contact the international coordinator at your school to be a "buddy" for one of the Korean students. We are having a mini fair this year from 7-8pm. We are holding it in the gym this year. Parents/students can park in the back and there will be an entrance to the floor where the gym is located. Capilano's Media Arts is having an Open House on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011 from noon to 4pm in the Library building (3rd floor) at the North Vancouver campus. Check out student work, tour studios and labs, and get feedback on your portfolio.
