When: March 19-23, 2013 (Spring Break) Application Deadline: February 12, 2013 What: Coastal Research Youth Forums are designed to provide opportunities for youth to explore their interests in science while working with and being mentored by biologists/scientists at our world-class Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre. The 2013 forum will focus on skills and techniques scientists use to investigate marine and terrestrial ecosystems. Activities will include measuring biodiversity, assessing species distribution, and collecting oceanographic data. Students will complete a research project that will include data collection and analysis, as well as presentation of their results. UVIC’s Faculty of Engineering will host an engineering high school tours day for grades 10, 11, and 12 students on Wednesday, February 20, 2013.Current faculty, students and staff will open the doors to prospective students and help them explore the fields of engineering and computer science through hands-on activities, guest lectures and department fairs. Interested participants must register for either the morning (8:45 am - 12:45 pm) or afternoon (12:15 pm - 4:00 pm) session using the online registration form at: www.uvic.ca/engrtours

Step One: Students apply for admission at https://applybc.ca/apply?execution=e2s1 and then self-report their grades online. They can then apply for the Major Entrance Scholarships at https://esas.its.sfu.ca/ Step Two: When filling out the scholarship applications, students will select two references. These references will receive an email with a unique link to fill out a reference form. Step Three: Students must submit their official transcripts showing their Grade 11 and 12 marks to the Financial Aid and Awards office at the following address: Entrance Scholarships SFU, MBC 3315 8888 University Drive Burnaby, British Columbia Canada V5A 1S6 NOTE: This is expensive (please see their website).
Law Every summer, high school students in grades 10 through 12 are offered a unique law school experience by the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Law. During the Law YSP, students currently enrolled in grades 10 through 12 can spend between one and five weeks at the Faculty of Law discussing advanced legal concepts, learning about the reality of the Canadian legal system, and applying their knowledge in a variety of stimulating environments. Medicine Every summer, high school students in grades 10 and 11 are offered an exclusive glimpse into the world of medicine and medical research by the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Medicine. From its home in the University of Toronto’s Medical Sciences Building, in the heart of Toronto’s “Medical Discovery District”, the Med YSP offers students currently enrolled in grades 10 and 11 four unique one-week modules that each introduces a major medical discipline.
