Students will attend five consecutive Saturday sessions from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm starting on February 15th, 2014 and ending on April 5th, 2014 at the SFU Surrey Campus.

Explore your options on February 15, 2014 at this FREE green career conference for youth in grades 10/11. The "green economy" is changing the face of the workplace in BC and around the world. This day is dedicated to students in grades 10 and 11 to learn about exciting and endless career opportunities. Futures is much more than a career fair as it allows you to interact with career mentors from various sustainability related careers who have excelled in and are passionate about their green careers. This interactive career workshop will be offered free of charge to 125 young people in grade 10/11 and will allow participants the opportunity to: • Meet and interact with amazing and successful people who will share their sustainability career paths in 5 breakout, roundtable sessions where career mentors will share their career journeys • Learn about emerging sustainability career opportunities in BC and Internationally • Listen to an inspirational keynote address from Dr. Nicholas Coops, UBC Professor and Canada Research Chair in Remote Sensing for forest productivity and conservation • Meet the engaging creators of Just Eat It: A Food Waste Story documentary film • Find out what it takes to reach your goals The conference will begin with an inspirational keynote address. During lunch the participants will have a chance to engage in a group activity. The workshop will conclude with a wrap-up session and a chance for the participants to win prizes. You’re eligible if you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident entering UBC’s Vancouver campus or UBC’s Okanagan campus directly from high school. You and your family must complete an application to demonstrate financial need.
The application requires a nomination letter from someone who is well-acquainted with you and who can comment on your character, interest in UBC, and financial situation. These individuals could include – but are not limited to – coaches, teachers, counsellors, principals, supervisors from work and volunteer positions, family doctors, and community or religious leaders.
