The UBC Physics Department is once again looking for volunteers to help with the Physics and Astronomy summer camps this year. Volunteers must be secondary school students currently finishing Grade 10 or higher. Volunteers must be enthusiastic, responsbile, punctual, and interested in science. They must also have a strong desire to work withh children and junior high school students.

There are two types of scholarship exclusively for Delview students, and you can apply for both. Many of them focus on accomplishments related to community service, sports, arts, and trades, rather than on high academic achievement.
1) Community Scholarships These are funds donated by local organizations. Fill out the “Brag Sheet” provided and check off the scholarships for which you wish to be considered. Even if the list indicates a scholarship is not yet confirmed, you can check it off. Examples of some of the criteria (and approximately the number of related scholarships) include:
These are funds supplied by the School District. If you are accomplished in Fine Arts, Applied Skills, Second Languages, or Physical Activity and wish to demonstrate your accomplishments to us, fill out the Dogwood Application and submit with the other documents requested. If you are chosen from the applicants, you’ll be asked to present (e.g., using trophies, certificates, a fashion or art show, dance, music, food prep, wood or metal projects, etc.). Applications for both the Community and the Dogwood Scholarships are available in the Career Centre. When complete, they must be deposited in the red box in the Career Centre by the deadline: 3 pm, May 12th, 2011. The Implant Awareness society is a not-for-profit registered society. Our goals are to help the general public gain knowledge and make an informed decision about breast, buttock, hip, calf, pectoral, bicep, tricep, deltoid, and jaw implants.
The following list outlines some of the tasks students will be asked to perform: - Help organize speaking engagements to be held within the community or at the school. - Create posters on a computer to advertise information sessions. - Greet attendees and man the sign-up table at the information sessions. - Take pictures of the audience and speaker during the presentation. - Create video and upload to u-tube with access on our website: http://implantawareness.com/ Contact: Elaine Jolicoeur Assistant & Fundraiser for Implant Awareness Society [email protected] The Delta Fire Department will sponsor a girl to attend the first Girls Fire Fighter Camp, and is inviting applications. The opportunity is available if you are 16 – 18 years old. The camp will be organized and run primarily by female firefighters, who will introduce girls to firefighting skills as well as involve girls in team-building activities. Along with this, the participants will receive a CPR Level C certificate.
The camp will run on August 5th, 6th, and 7th at the Vancouver Fire & Rescue Services Training Centre, 1330 Chess Street. The deadline for application is May 20, 2011. See Ms Derksen for the form. Ever wonder about the science behind how animals are trained? How about how humans work with animals, like sea lions, raptors and dogs? The Vancouver Aquarium invites you to dive into the inner workings of animal psychology and training.
Join us at this free event to learn about the relationships between humans and animals, notably what it takes to train animals and how you, too, can begin an exciting career in animal training!
