This is a new trade just launched by the Industry Training Authority and a pilot program of the curriculum is offered to students at the Piping Industry Apprenticeship Board Trades School, located on Annacis Island. It is not a highly academic program but requires someone with a good work ethic who enjoys working outdoors. The Level 1 core program leads to either Equipment Installer or Equipment Service specialties for Level 2. We are told that appoximately 2/3 of the persons currently employed in the trade are over the age of 50, so lots of jobs expected to open in the next few years. The pilot will run from March 28 to May 20 (it does start during spring break!), and will offer 8 elective credits towards graduation with an opportunity to get additional credits through work experience. Students who do well on a work experience placement may be hired and then qualify for 16 credits under secondary school apprenticeship. Deadline for applications is February 25.
