The Summer 2012 Scholarship Newsletter is now available on the Scholarships page.
SFU-bound students are invited to join us for Simon Fraser University's 19th annual Education Fair event slated for Saturday May 26 from 9:30-11:15am, followed by our SFU Open House from 11:00am-4:00pm in the afternoon.
The Education Fair promises to lay a foundation for students who have recently been admitted to SFU for Fall 2012, allowing them to learn more about their chosen programs and welcoming them to our SFU community. We have invited each of them with their families to visit our Burnaby campus to meet faculty, staff and students, go on campus tours, and participate in faculty presentations on the morning of May 26, and then stay for the Open House festivities in the afternoon. http://www.sfu.ca/openhouse Please visit our website at http://students.sfu.ca/educationfair.html for more details. Experience the thrill of staging the Tour de Delta this year through volunteering. Ever wonder how your community has pulled off this big event annually these past 12 years? Its easy… an army of volunteers led by seasoned veterans and fully backed by the Corporation of Delta! Since July 2000, Olympic level riders have cycled through the streets of Delta, spanning North Delta, Ladner and Tsawwassen. Cyclists like Eric Wohlberg, Gord Fraser, Svein Tuft, Gina Grain and Susy Pryde. These athletes come back year after year suggesting that Tour de Delta is “one of their favourites… not only for the professionalism of the race itself but, in large part, due to the ‘friendliness factor’ of Delta and the generosity of its volunteers”. You don’t need previous experience to assist. Simply go to the Volunteers page at www.tourdedelta.com. From there you can fill out the volunteer application form and send it in or email Michelle Hebein, the Volunteer Director. You can also fill out a volunteer form and have it sent via interoffice mail to Michelle Hebein at the North Delta Recreation Centre or Christine Bigelow at Delta Municipal Hall (Parks, Rec and Culture Dept). A Volunteer Dinner is hosted on Wednesday, July 4th where you will be divided into teams and learn your roles from seasoned volunteer leaders. Can’t commit to the entire weekend? That is okay! There are jobs that run a few hours as well as those that span the entire weekend. If you are aged 16 to 96, there is a role for you. Some get the whole family involved as a way of giving back to the community. Let 2012 mark the year of the volunteer!
