The Delta MathStretch Program is looking for candidates who are currently in grade ten or eleven, to work as online mentors for grades five through nine students, starting September 2012 through April 2013.
Successful candidates must have:
Exceptional math skills, especially in problem solving. Internet access for approximately two hours per week. Strong command of the English language and Mathematical vocabulary.
Duties:
1) Respond online to student logs twice a week by: Answering student questions. Checking solutions. Giving feedback by encouraging students, inviting discussion of strategies used to solve a problem, and suggesting and discussing alternate strategies.
2) Email a weekly report to supervisor.
These hours as a mentor may be used as work experience. Modest remuneration will be provided.
All applications must include a cover letter describing why you want to be a MathStretch mentor, a brief resume, a copy of your most recent Report Card, a letter of reference from a recent Math or Science teacher, and your email address.
