A few of you have asked questions about the application for the Dogwoods, so here are some points to keep in mind. The Dogwoods are for students who have achieved a high level in one of the six categories listed. Whatever your chosen field, you love it, and you’ve put a lot of time and effort into it.
Separate all the pages. For the first page (the actual application form), a few more tips:
Section 1
You may choose only one category.
Section 2
The SIN is required for identification and tax purposes. If you were to win, the Ministry of Education could not give you the funds without your having a SIN.
Section 3
You need to list a minimum of three courses or activities you’ve done that in some way relate to your chosen field. The three courses can all be in School Course Work, or all in Extracurricular Activities, or all in External Credit Courses. Or you can have one in each of those sections. Or you can have two in one section and your third in another.
Section 4
Make sure you have all the components of the application submitted. You need to make copies of the Teacher/Sponsor Reference Form (for a total of three). The word “sponsor” means you can approach people who are not teachers (e.g., coaches, supervisors, competition judges—you’re looking for people who can vouch for your level of accomplishment). The typed statement is giving us details on what you’ve done, e.g., courses you’ve taken, awards you’ve received, performances you’ve given, organizations you’ve served, money you’ve raised, creations you’ve produced, etc.
