The Mitchell Slater Foundation Scholarship honours the legacy of Mitchell Slater, a 15 year old who died by suicide in 2017. The Foundation was created the following year by his family and close friends to help raise awareness and end stigma surrounding mental health. Our vision in creating this scholarship is to provide opportunity and invest in the potential of all students regardless of academic achievement.
The scholarship is available to all students in all school districts. We would like students to be creative in using whatever skills or talents they may have. This is not an academic based scholarship.
Application process:
To be considered for this scholarship, tell us your story, who you are, what your dreams and goals are, and what the funds would be used for. If you have a memory of Mitchell, or if you or someone close to you has been impacted by a mental health issue, we encourage you to share how it has impacted your life.
You can submit your story in whatever way you'd like - a letter. a video. collage, create something. Want to go into carpentry? Build your application, draw up some plans! Are you into Photography? Make a slideshow! Get the idea?
All formats accepted.
Examples of prior applications we have received are: poetry, slideshows, short film, artwork, letters.
