BURSARY APPLICATION – REGULATIONS AND INFORMATION
- Financial need is the primary basis for choosing recipients and priority is given to children, grand children or great grandchildren of veterans. A veteran is defined by the Royal Canadian Legion as “Any person who is serving or has honorably served in the Canadian Armed Forces, the Commonwealth or its wartime allies, or as a Regular Member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, or as a Peace Officer in a Special Duty Area or on a Special Duty Operation, or who has served in the Merchant Navy or Ferry Command during wartime”
- Four $1000.00 bursaries, two of which are from the Poppy fund, are awarded. To be eligible for the Poppy Fund bursaries Veterans Service information must be completed.
- Only under extenuating circumstances will this bursary be awarded to a student who has received additional awards. (ie. Monies that do not have to be repaid)
- Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Relating to the Application Form:
SECTION I Student Information
- Print clearly or type all information requested
- Complete the application form
- Provide a letter, written by the applicant, describing their educational and career goals and objectives.
- The applicant must reside in British Columbia or the Yukon and be a Canadian Citizen
SECTION II College(s)/University(s)/School(s) Information
§ Provide the name and address of the College, Trade School, Technical School or University you have applied to/will be attending. If more than one use an additional page
§ The Campus must be in British Columbia or the Yukon unless the courses required are not available in BC.
§ Bursaries are awarded to students attending facilities on a full time basis for two consecutive semesters
- Post graduate studies do not apply
SECTION III Veterans Service Information
- Evidence of service must be provided. eg. service discharge certificate, proof of employment in RCMP, to be eligible for the Bursaries from the Poppy Fund

- This section is confidential and must be completed at the Branch interview
SECTION V Interview Process
Applicant
- must bring the following to the Branch interview:
- Proof of Service (see above), if applicable
- Copy of Revenue Canada Tax Assessment for the previous year. Note: this/these documents will not be copied and will be returned to the applicant after review at the interview
NOTE –Transcripts, photographs, reference letters or any other scholastic achievements are not necessary as bursaries are awarded primarily for financial need.
