Hello,
On behalf of MLA Ravi Kahlon, we are pleased to share that applications for the StrongerBC Young Leaders Council are now open!
The next generation of leaders in B.C. have a new way to help shape government policy and priorities through the creation of the StrongerBC Young Leaders Council. The council will be made up 15 young British Columbians who will provide direct and ongoing feedback to the Premier’s Special Advisor on Youth on the issues that matter most to young people in B.C. Youth age 14-26 are invited to apply, though there is some flexibility on the age eligibility requirement. If applicants are a bit older or younger than this range, they can explain how they qualify as a BC young leader. The council is a way for the government to listen to and learn from youth, so that, together, we can build toward a secure future with input on the issues that matter most to young people and that have an impact on their daily lives.
Young people can engage directly with the government to share their vision for a stronger B.C. and to have their priorities shared in the policy development process in areas such as employment, the environment, climate change, mental health supports, education, housing, affordability and more. The StrongerBC Young Leaders Council supports the B.C. government’s commitment to an inclusive, innovative and sustainable economic recovery for everyone who lives in B.C. The StrongerBC Young Leaders Council is one way the Premier’s Special Advisor on Youth is acting as the point person for young people and providing a platform for young people to engage directly with the Government of British Columbia. The Ministry of Jobs, Economic Recovery and Innovation, where MLA Kahlon is the minister, will provide support and coordination for the council.
People can apply through the B.C. government website www.gov.bc.ca/youngleaderscouncil from October 6, 2021 to October 27, 2021. Step-by-step instructions are provided on the website on how to create a profile and complete the application process. For those under 19 years of age, a signed parent/guardian consent form will be required.
