SIYSCorps is one of many Youth Service Corps projects that are currently being federally funded across Canada. In 2019 Surrey was identified as the community in BC with the highest drug and gang involvement amongst local youth in BC. Through this program, students are given the opportunity to secure volunteer placements for youth in and around the city of Surrey to establish deeper connections within their community and hopefully prevent, intervene, and suppress youth gang violence.
The SIYSCorps program is looking for passionate youth all across B.C. between the ages of 15-30 years who are excited to give back to their communities, gain experience and build a better Canada. Our program brings together a diverse group of motivated youth to become active community ambassadors. Youth may also design and participate in their own funded community project!
We provide:
- 6 weeks of FREE virtual skills workshops (4 weeks of workshops and 2 weeks of one to one support), allowing them to build their leadership and interpersonal skills from their own home.
- Customized volunteer placement at an organization of their choice that fits their interest and skills
- Micro-grants to build their own community service project, in place of a volunteer placement
- Bus passes during their participation of the program
- Reference letter, certification of completion and a graduation goodie bag upon the completion of the program
Eligibility requirements include:
- Youth aged 15-30
- BC Residents
- Canadian Citizens, Permanent Resident, and Refugee Status
I have attached our brochure for further reading. If you require additional materials or would like to request additional materials to be displayed in your institution please advise—I’d love to assist you in promoting our program.
