BC Sports Scholarships - May 3

The Member Schools of BC School Sports are pleased to announce this year’s BC School Sports Scholarship Fund.  The association is dedicated to assisting worthy student-athletes in their desire to attend an accredited Canadian University or College.

BC School Sports Scholarships reward excellence in both scholastic and athletic pursuits.  The successful applicants will be student-athletes who have balanced their high academic achievements with significant success as school athletes and contributions to their community.

Scholarships shall be awarded to students enrolled in member schools who apply, and who meet all of the criteria.

Bc School superintendents association scholarship - mar 5

The British Columbia School Superintendents Association will award six regional scholarships to students planning to pursue post-secondary studies.  Value of the award is $1,000.  

Students wishing to be considered for a scholarship must be currently enrolled in their final year of studies at a public secondary school in British Columbia and expected to graduate in June 2021.

One winner will be chosen from each of the six BCSSA provincial chapters (Fraser Valley, Kootenay-Boundary, Metro, Vancouver Island, Northern, Thompson-Okanagan).

Terry Fox Humanitarian Award - Feb 1

The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award is open to students of all abilities and all fields of study.

Terry Fox Humanitarian Award recipients are selected for their dedication to the humanitarian ideals of Terry Fox, their courage in overcoming obstacles, and definite marks of distinction and persistence in the pursuit of excellence in academic, athletic, and civic life.
 
We are looking for humanitarians, those who improve human welfare, make a difference, and have a positive impact on the community and others.
 
Eligibility CriteriaTerry Fox Humanitarian Awards are open to students of all abilities.
Applicants must meet be:
  • In good academic standing.
  • Canadian citizens or landed immigrants.
  • Students graduating from secondary (high) school or students completing their first year of CÉGEP or students who have completed secondary (high) school
  • Involved in voluntary humanitarian activities (for which they have not been compensated).
  • Planning to or are already studying towards their first university degree or diploma at a Canadian post-secondary institution, or entering their 2nd year of CÉGEP in the upcoming academic year.

Applications

Applicants must provide three (3) referees and upload online an (un) official transcript detailing the applicant’s last two years of schooling (official transcripts, sealed by the issuing institution, will be requested from applicants who are selected for an interview). Referees will be emailed a link requesting they complete an online Referee Form on behalf of the applicant.  

If you are planning to apply, please contact your referees as soon as possible (you have to give them at least 1 or 2 weeks of notice).   Let them know that they will have to complete an online Referee form.

Canadian women in Municipal Government Scholarships - Jan 15

Applications are now open for FCM's 2020-21 scholarships for young women!
​

FCM is proud to offer the Canadian Women in Municipal Government Scholarship for young women in secondary school, CEGEP and Amanda DeloreyCoordinator, Executive Director's Office Communications Adviser adelorey@fcm.ca to encourage them in their studies of women in politics, and to support their community involvement.

There are five awards of $1,000 each, with one award to be presented in each of the five regions of Canada (British Columbia, The Prairies and Territories, Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada).

  • In a 3 min video, tell us how you contribute to school activities related to student council or leadership.

CMOLIK FOUNDATION scholarship

Application Deadline:  February 7, 2021

Cmolik Foundation award scholarships to youth who have faced adversity in their lives and demonstrated tenacity.   Students who have lived in Canada for at least seven years and have experienced adversity in their lives are eligible to apply. They may not have top grades through high school but must be capable of succeeding at the post-secondary level.

This scholarship is valued at up to $40,000 for books/tuition for an undergraduate degree or equivalent.   

Delview Secondary can only nominate one application. To considered for nomination, a brag sheet and cover letter must be submitted to Ms. Abad cabad@deltalearns.ca by January 18, 2021.

Pathway to teacher education scholarship

Application Deadline:  February 15, 2021

The Pathway to Teacher Education scholarship is awarded to 20 outstanding high school graduates who have demonstrated a commitment to and aptitude for a career in K–12 teaching.

Recipients receive a $5,000 scholarship voucher that they can redeem with the Ministry of Education after they are attending an approved K–12 teacher education program at one of B.C.’s nine Faculties of Education.

Students have seven years to redeem their Pathway to Teacher Education scholarship vouchers; an expiry date is printed on each voucher and extensions are not possible.

BC Excellence Scholarship - deadline to be nominated is January 15, 2021

The BC Excellence scholarship is awarded to 55 well-rounded high school graduates who have demonstrated service and leadership, both at school and in their communities, and who show aptitude for and commitment to their chosen career paths.

Recipients receive a $5,000 scholarship voucher that they can redeem with the Ministry of Education after they are attending a designated post-secondary institution or B.C. authorized trades training provider.
Students have five years to redeem their BC Excellence scholarship vouchers; an expiry date is printed on each voucher and extensions are not possible.

Beedie Luminaries Scholarship

The Beedie Luminaries Scholarship is for students who are smart, but constrained by circumstance. Students who are resilient and gritty. Students who are ready to make a positive change in their lives.

Update: As of June 16, 2020 - Ryan Beedie, through his foundation, Beedie Luminaries, is increasing the number of students receiving scholarships this year from the expected 105 to 128 Beedie Luminaries provides up to $40,000 each to resilient students across the province who face financial adversity.  

$40,000 per student (4-year undergraduate degree)
$15,000 per student (2-year college or trade-school diploma)

We are looking for resilient BC students facing financial adversity who have the academic readiness to advance their education, achieve their dreams, and inspire others.

1 - READINESS
Students with academic readiness are prepared. They have healthy learning habits and a drive that will successfully navigate them through school to a career. It sets them up for success.

2 - GRIT
Having grit means someone has the resilience and persistence to follow through on their dreams, no matter what life throws at them. Grit drives their decisions and influences their behaviour.

3 - CREATIVITY
Being creative is thinking outside of the box. It’s contributing unique ideas and solving problems. Creative people are daring. They understand that they might have to fail a few times to win.

4 - EMPATHY
Empathetic people understand the emotions of others. They contribute to a healthier society by being sensitive to the feelings of their partners, co-workers, family, friends and the community at large.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
To be considered for the 2020 program you must meet the basic eligibility requirements:

1 - RESIDENCY
Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident for at least three years and reside in British Columbia.

2 - APTITUDE
Currently be in Grade 12 and have a minimum grade average of 75% in the most recently completed school year.

3 - INTENT
Plan to be a full-time student and use the funding for post-secondary education..

4 - INSTITUTION
Apply to one of the twenty-five BC post-secondary institutions or trade schools.

5 - FINANCIAL ADVERSITY
Demonstrate your and/or your family's financial adversity, and how it has affected you.

6 - ENGAGEMENT
Receive endorsement from your secondary school and a community organization.

TD Scholarships Eligibility 

TD Scholarships for Community Leadership are open to students across Canada who:
  • Have demonstrated community leadership
  • Are in the final year of high school (outside Quebec) or CEGEP (in Quebec)
  • Have a minimum overall grade average of 75% in their most recently completed school year

If this is something you’re excited about, then you should look out for applications starting in September. But here is the general process:

1. Write a 600-word essay describing your community leadership experience.
  • Why you got involved
  • How your involvement shows initiative and innovation
  • The ways your efforts have strengthened others
  • How long you have been involved
  • What you think the long-term impact will be
  • How your community has affected you
2. Tell us about the other great things you’re doing. Include a brief description of the range of your other community activities with:
  • A letter of recommendation from your school (WHEN YOU ASK FOR REFERENCE LETTER, PLEASE GIVE YOUR TEACHER 1 TO 2 WEEKS NOTICE, AND PROVIDE THEM YOUR BRAG SHEET)
  • Two letters of support from community groups 
  • Your academic transcript (SEND MS. ABAD AN EMAIL IF YOU NEED A COPY OF YOUR TRANSCRIPT)
3. If you’re really trying to impress, you also have the option of including:

Association of School Transportation Services of British ColumbiaCommercial Heavy-Duty Mechanic Scholarship Program

The Association of School Transportation Services of British Columbia (ASTSBC) will award a scholarship to eligible student(s) attending an educational facility in the Province of British Columbia for the express purpose of attaining certification as a Commercial Heavy Duty Mechanic. The Association will sponsor a maximum of four (4) students at any one time.

Each successful candidate may receive up to a maximum of $7,000 over the 4 years. The scholarship will be awarded upon proof of each year’s registration as follows:

First Year $1,000
Second Year $1,500
Third Year $2,000
Fourth Year $2,500
4 Year Total $7,000

Eligibility Criteria for the ASTSBC Scholarship:
a) be registered at an approved (authorized or certified) British Columbia educational facility;
b) have a minimum GPA of C+ average;
c) be a Canadian citizen;
d) submit a complete, up-to-date, official high school transcript from Grade 12 or proof of equivalency;
e) complete and submit the Scholarship Application, which includes 2 essays to be written by the applicant.
Please submit applications by June 30 or December 31.

MiTchell Slater #CamoFriday Scholarship

This is a new scholarship awarded to North Delta Secondary schools in memory of Mitchell Slater, a Burnsview student who tragically took his own life in grade 10. All are welcome to apply, but those who knew Mitchell are particularly encouraged to apply. 

Criteria:

Who are you? What are your dreams and goals? What are your plans for Post-Secondary School? 
Do you have a memory of Mitchell? 
How have you or someone close to you been impacted by mental health? 

Submit your "story" in a variety of methods: letter, video, collage art or woodwork/metalwork project.
